This is for those of you who do not know what it means to live or for those of you who think you do.
Life cannot be described in one word. If it could then we would have solved its meaning long ago. Life is not just a adventure. Life is not just about sorrow. Life is not just about your dreams and your goals. Life IS a meaning that most cannot to even hope to understand. Why are we human beings on the planet? Why are we living? Why can we move? Why do we feel? Why do we think? As humans we are born curious, even if it doesn’t show in all of us. We wonder about what we are doing currently, why we took a action in the past, and what step to take in the future. Does it really matter. I believe we as humans are born with one right. That right is not simple. It is not easy to obtain. It is most certainly not something we understand. If it was we would all exploit it as much as possible. I believe that we as human beings are born with the right to be happy, to be satisfied, to smile. The only question is, how?
There is a lot in the world that we can’t smile about. Hunger around the world. Homeless people living on the streets looking for their next meal or to find a place to sleep at night. Some people who were and are being abused. Are loved ones die, sometimes right in front of us and we feel powerless because we can do nothing about it. Or even worse we feel like we could have done something but didn’t. Life is not easy, with all the bad things in the world it is understandable that we would find it hard to smile. Yet, some how we keep on living. We live through the hunger, the homeless, the abuse, and even the loss. Why? Again the answer to this is not simple either. We don’t simply survive, we live even if it means taking the most brutal steps to live. We don’t simply eat but we feast on everything and anything we can get our hands on. Humans live, survive, and eat so that we may feel hope. The hope that we can smile about waking up in the morning, the we can smile through our day, that we can smile back at our loved ones when we see them.
I will not tell you to smile, for I can’t tell you to do something that I can’t do every single day. I do try and smiled though, I try and find that hope that every human being searches for. The only thing I will ask you to do is keep looking for that hope, for that silver lining, for that light in the deepest darkest corner. Once you find it, grab on, hold it tight, and never let go. Then when you have got it, you can always look at it and smile.
One of these guys I know who considers me a friend wrote this.
